The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) issued a call to action on S. 794, the Local Coverage Determination (LCD) Clarification Act of 2017. A link has been provided through the Congressional Action Center on the NAAOP website for people to contact their Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the act. By entering your zip code, a sample letter will come up for you to fill out.
The bipartisan bill was introduced in the Senate on March 31 to amend the way Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) issue LCDs for medical devices and provide for procedural fairness. Among other things, the bill would require open and public MAC meetings that are on the record, require disclosure for the reasoning and evidence backing of an LCD decision, provide a reconsideration process, and prohibit MACs from adopting LCDs made in other jurisdictions without its own independent evaluation.
