I have been contacted by the attorney of one of my young traumatic amputee patients. He wanted me to put together a lifetime prosthetic cost estimate for this patient. I have searched but unable to find a standardized format to present the lifetime cost estimates for prosthetic care. Are there any formulas for estimating the unknowns such as inflation, costs of new prosthetic technology, changes in prosthetic needs as patient grows older, potential medical issues and its costs related to being an above knee amputee, etc.
This kid is an active 10 year old with a long life ahead as a amputee, the last thing I want to do is underestimate his lifetime costs for prosthetic care.
Any help would be great.
