Medicare MBI’s

Tracy Fields

Just wanted to give an FYI on something I learned today about the new
Medicare MBI numbers. Some of you may already know this but if not it will
save you a little time in calling Medicare.

Apparently if they lose the card etc, and they call in to get a
replacement, the MBI ID will change. You will still be able to verify
active coverage with the old MBI (does not help providers at all) but will
deny the claims stating *missing/incomplete/invalid patient identifier*.

When you get that denial instead of calling to see if they denied this
incorrectly because you show everything to be correct, you can pull their
social security # and go to myCGS to look up the new MBI and refile.

Happy Billing everyone 😉

Thank you
