I am looking for a mobility device

Keith Vinnecour

I have a 19 year old male who is too weak to stand independently from a yet to be determined neuromuscular disease, but has enough balance and strength to ambulate once his is standing, obviously with someone assisting him from sit to stand. He ambulates with 45° of toe out and a wide based gait. I do not believe that there are any orthoses that will enhance is current ambulation or improve his stability.

I was thinking of a power wheelchair with a stander, but he will not be able to bend over to release the anterior control that is below his knees. I looked at the Tek RMD. but that had the same issue of not allowing him to walk once he is upright.

I am looking for a devise that will assist him to stand and help him to sit, but I have not been able to find such a device. He currently sits by getting near his chair and letting gravity do the rest.

I am hoping that someone out there will have some clever idea or has seen or used something like this for a person that wants to be functional in the community.

Thank you all in advance.

Keith
