Dear list serve,
I have a new to our service, 50 year old patient who is bilateral AK, KD
secondary to a MVA a decade ago. His hardware is first generation C-legs
and OB feet which have outlived their lives and are in need of replacement.
His primary mode of mobility is a manual W/C. However he does ambulate a
distance of up to 25 yards with an almost locked knee gait using bilateral
canes/loftstrands or walker depending on environment. He has great upper
extremity strength, with easy to fit residual limbs of good shape,
excellent ROM and strength.
Primary issue for him as you can imagine is going from sit to stand. I am
thinking that an Ossur Powered knee and Rheo or other MPK might be a good
set up and an improvement over his current bilateral MPK’s? Does anyone
have any experience along these lines that they can share?
My goal isn’t to just replace his limbs, but provide a measured improvement
in his functional levels. Can the Ossur Powered knee deliver in this
instance?
