A Segmental Kinematic Approach to Rehabilitation and Designing, Aligning, and Tuning AFO Footwear Combinations (Part One)

This four-part webinar program focuses on the segmental kinematic approach to the rehabilitation of standing, stepping, and walking with full gait cycles for both children and adults. The presenter will review standing, stepping, and the gait cycle divided by segment kinematics; explore segment alignments occurring at “temporal mid-stance” and during “entrance” to and “exit” from temporal mid-stance; and describe a simple classification of gait based on segment kinematics and review of three clinical algorithms that help determine the optimal AFO footwear combination (AFOFC) designs for any of these gait deviations. The webinar will also cover optimal alignment, proportion, stiffness, and profiles for all of the gait categories and guidelines for each. The presenter will use video vector gait laboratory images to demonstrate each point.
