Patient Practices

Matt Hall

Dear List,

I’ve had an experience recently where a physician had asked to have us do a consult for a new patient in the hospital. I had gone to speak with the patient post operatively and brought educational materials and left them with the patient as is our standard practice; and after doing so, upon my next visit I’d found that another practitioner had somehow (still don’t know how?) come into the room to speak with the patient as well, and additionally sent a peer advocate to speak with the same patient. When I spoke with the practitioner he assured me it had been a mistake on his part.??
This has not happened to me before; and I was able to maintain the care of the patient as we have moved forward, but I was curious as to see if any other colleagues have had experience with the same?
I have addressed this with the physician and plan to go to the hospital where this has happened to have them know of people entering patient rooms to solicit business.
I would be most interested to know if others in the field have had this happen in their practice and what they have done in an effort to prevent this from happening again?
Or if this is an isolated practice specific to our area.

Thank You for any and all responses.
