Expect Continued Delays in Medicare O&P ALJ Hearings
This week, the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) held a forum on the ALJ appeals backlog, the first opportunity for the public to obtain an update on the ALJ backlog and to pose questions to OMHA since a similar forum was held last winter. Chief Judge Nancy Griswold led the forum along with other Health and Human Services officials. Unfortunately, there were no major announcements that are expected to break the logjam in ALJ appeals, only more modest developments which are not expected to significantly accelerate access to a hearing before an objective decision-maker on Medicare O&P claims denials.
