3D printed hands

Jeff Erenstone

I have been exploring the world of 3D printers who are designing and
building prosthetic-like hands. There are some groups like e-NABLE
that are doing good and are trying to be responsible about how they
proceed with their developments.

Then there are other groups.

Recently I heard about a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to give
hands to kids. The hand that they cite was designed by the e-NABLE
community and they are claiming it can be made for half the cost that
e-NABLE claims (costs are raw materials).

On top of that they state, “Prosthetic hands for kids are around $50,000.”

I would like them to find a single kid’s hand that cost $50,000.
Using mis-information to collect money is Fraud !!!

A group that is willing to lie about the cost of things, I don’t trust
that they will use the money to do what they say they will.
Especially because they are for-profit company and these hands take
hours to assemble.

So I think we should let this guy know what we think of him. His
email address is…[email protected]

His website is ……

P.S. Another group worth contacting and taking issue with is

Here is a recent article about them in Parade Mag. They are claiming
that prosthetic hands cost $60,000….
