New Medicare codes

Traci Berkman

Looking for some clarification.

With the new Medicare codes for some of our OTS devices we are looking to clarify Medicare’s definition of “customized”. For example, To use code L0627 it is an “item that has been trimmed, bent, molded, assembled, or otherwise customized to fit a specific patient by an individual with expertise.”

Does the list believe that our demonstration of donning/doffing, explaining care and use, and donning on patient to ensure proper fit count as “customized” though a brace may not be trimmed, bent or molded?

Any advice on how others are handling these new codes would be great.

Thanks
