Risk Management in Orthotics and Prosthetics: Practical Approaches to Keep Your Patients Safe

This webinar will address the use of risk management principles in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. Case studies will be used to highlight common issues for prosthetists and orthotists, such as falls, defective/malfunctioning devices, improperly selected devices, and additional injury allegedly caused by a device. Ways in which injury may be prevented or mitigated, to minimize liability will be addressed and mitigating potential loss in litigation will be discussed.
Tim Klein, RN, JD, is a healthcare consultant with Global Loss Prevention, Healthcare Division (GLP HD) based in Houston. He provides risk management consultative services to a variety of healthcare organizations in the western US including acute care and specialty hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, behavioral facilities, long-term care facilities, and physician practices. Klein has extensive experience in the healthcare industry, including emergency department nursing, nursing administration, risk management, healthcare law, and healthcare consulting. He is a licensed attorney and practiced law with a focus on medical malpractice defense and general healthcare operational issues. Prior to joining GLP HD, Klein spent more than eight years in healthcare risk management, most of which were as the director of risk management for a multi-facility hospital system. Klein earned a bachelor’s of science in nursing with honors from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center (!
San Antonio) and a juris doctorate with honors from Texas Tech University School of Law.
