surgical tubing for vo hook

I have a bilateral below elbow who I fit with 5xa hooks. We have installed on one of the hooks surgical tubing. It lasts a couple of weeks and then becomes very sticky to the point that the patient has a problem getting the hook opened. Is there a better material for this purpose?
