“Dog ears” and other amputation photos-Your help needed

mark benveniste

I would like to collect photos of early post op amputations. I am interested in
poorly and properly done amputations, for the purpose of educating surgeons and
others.

It seems that for the most part “dog ears” is a sign of a poorly done amputation
except in some cases where vascularity may be an issue and it is not clear how
much viable tissue is there. That is the external presentation of the
amputation, and of course there are underlying techniques of properly done
myodesis and myoplasty that will not be visible

Photos will be posted on the Lower Limb Society’s website for easy access.
Perhaps details of advanced surgical techniques could also be put up on the web
site and new surgeons referred to it

Please send photos to this email address.

Thank you,

Mark Benveniste CP
