Allergic reactions…

James Beggs

I’ve recently received a new patient who has been an amputee for 25 years.
For some time now, other practices have tried all kinds of liners of gel and
silicone, including OWW, Ossur, etc. The most success they had was with a
silicone liner from Ossur, but even then he had reactions, and other
materials its been worse, actually leaving him severely bloodied and raw. A
dermatologist diagnosed him as being allergic to rubber.

The other difficult, though, is that he is still fairly young and strong,
has a teenage daughter, is very able-bodied, etc, and wants to be able to
run. He wants elevated vacuum.

Does anyone have any experience with strong, active patients with this kind
of interface problem?
