Thanks to everyone that replied to my post. The most popular answer to what the cause(s) is of the blistering makes total sense. My pt is very tall so when he sits down, the soft tissue build-up behind the knee (because his knee is a little more than 90 degrees) causes his residuum to pull up out of the socket and if the vacuum is on (which we had it stay on for sitting) it’s going to try to pull his tissues down into an area without total contact. The other situation was that he was turning the vacuum on before being full weight bearing in the prosthesis…again not having the total contact with the distal end. One of the practitoners i’ve worked with in the past (thanks Cortney!) said that if his limb is cylindrical and we are using the Aegis sealing liner, it is a little more conical so she recommended using a Tec spot or the Ohio Willow Wood volume management pad(s) to be placed on the distal end to shape the distal end of the liner to a more cylindrical shape. Thanks again for everyone’s help! I’ll know more about how much this all helps once pt’s water blisters heal up and we get him up and going again.
