Cosmetic skin options

Jacqueline Schmit

I’m looking to replace a Daw skin for a female patient of mine. She has a split toe foot so it has to have this option, plus it needs to be something that glues in place while she waits. I’ve tried a couple silicone brands (Ossur and Livingskin) but they don’t adhere in that timeframe. She doesn’t have an old prosthesis to wear in the meantime since we’d replaced her old one due to weight gain, and she can’t revert back to crutches due to her work duties.

It seems Daw changed their materials since we’d replaced hers a couple years ago and the same nail polish she’d been using dyed the new skin and the ankle tore within the two weeks she’s had it. She also mentioned it’s very difficult to get shoes on, the same shoes she was able to use with the previous skin without problems. I initially talked to customer service at Daw about the nail polish problem but this was the first they’d heard of it with their newer skins. Suggestions?
