Press Release Provided by Limbs of Freedom :

Limbs of Freedom, based in San Diego,is a volunteer group sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Coronado and the Club Rotario Ensenada Calafia, Mexico
completed a three-day event where five amputees were fitted with new,
prosthetic limbs In Ensenada, Mexico.

This is the ninth of a series of efforts provided there.

Christian Valdeman, age 9, was born with an absent left femur and deformed
left leg. Herb Barrack of Incline Orthotics and Prosthetics of La Mesa,
California and Jeff Rocha of Maverick Fabrication of San Diego devised a
multi-staged fabrication process that will allow Christian to have a fully
functional prosthetic left leg when the group returns to Ensenada in 2-3
months. Four other Ensenadans were fitted and given lower limb prosthetics
at the completion of the three-day clinic.

Dora Carrazco-Vazquez, a mother of three, has been unable to work since
having a left below-the-knee amputation several months ago. She now can
return to work, allowing her 11 year-old daughter who has been working at a
large supermarket to help provide income for her family to return to school
fulltime.

Enrique Hernandez-Garcia, a 53 year-old man, will return to his work in an
Ensenada restaurant, now without crutches, where he has worked for 25 years.
Guillermo Cruz, the chef at La Mision Restaurant north of Ensenada in La
Mision, Mexico is also able to continue his work with newly found
independence as is Sandra Jimenez-Rivera, a 41 year-old mother of four who
works in the largest supermarket in Tijuana.

Both Tony Barr and The Barr Foundation of Boca Raton, Florida, and Cascade
Orthopedic Supply headed by Rotarian Kirk Levy of Chico, California
generously supplied products and direct financial support. This is now the
9th year that the Coronado and Ensenada Calafia Rotary Clubs have teamed
with the Barr Foundation and Cascade to sponsor this project.

The limb-building team is led by Herb Barrack, owner of Inline Orthotics and
Prosthetics and by Jeff Rocha, owner of Maverick Fabricators. Rocha was
instrumental in streamlining the fabrication process and modernizing the
facility in Ensenada. Gerardo Guzman and Floyd Thompson of Progressive
Orthopedics of San Diego assisted in the final fabrications.

Coronado Rotarians participating in the event included Bob Spear, M.D.,
Rotary President Bill Sandke, Alan Palmore and Dan Gensler.

The Barr Foundation has been able to help provide prosthetic rehabilitation
to over 1200 amputees in the USA and abroad whom otherwise could not afford
it.

We are able to do this thru the help of paricipating organizations,
sponsoring prosthetists and our Where Hope Meets Help Donor Club members.

Each week the Barr Foundation sends a salute to a organization(s) person (s)
and/or Hope Donor(s) who have made a great difference in a life.
