BREAKING NEWS: BOC Board Members Resign Amid Allegations

Tina Eichner

The O&P EDGE has learned that at least six members of the 18-member Board of
Directors of the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC),
Baltimore, Maryland, have resigned amid alleged legal and financial
improprieties at the organization. More resignations are expected, calling
the future of the organization into question.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed that authorities with the
State of Maryland have been contacted, complaints have been filed and that
an investigation is expected.

Last July unification talks between BOC and the American Board for
Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) were terminated over “vast
differences in culture between the two groups,” according to a BOC press
release. The BOC reportedly has undergone a restructuring in the past year,
partially in response to the failed unification, in which the alleged legal
and financial issues were raised.
