We are looking for an alternative to the SWASH brace to fit our cerebral
palsy patients. Due to funding constraints at our hospital, there are very
strict criteria that must be met in order for a child to be fit with a
SWASH. Namely, they must be post botox, ambulatory, considerable hip
migration, tight adductors (scissor gait) and under the age of five.
Consequently, we are left with a number of patients who do not meet this
criteria, but would be great canditates for this type of brace. Can anyone
suggest cheaper alternatives that maintain the hips in the required flexion
and abduction, particularly for patients under the age of five. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
