Today I received a letter from Ossur addressed to “Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation Professional”. It appears to have been sent to the wrong place as
I am a prosthetist, not a rehab professional. However, the cover letter
states that Ossur will be sending this booklet that lists all Ossur Affiliated
Facilities to all Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physicians and Vascular
physicians, as well as case managers. So does this mean that Ossur is now my new
competition as my name and/or company is not listed in their book? We
purchase and use Ossur products and we also have a well-trained staff, our
prosthetists conduct a thorough analysis of our patients needs and, oh let me not
forget, our delivery time is 1 week. I thought only the soft good vendors are
competing for our patients but now it looks like the first prosthetic
manufacturer has jumped into the ring. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed by
this.
