Call For Volunteers

Joel Kempfer C.P.

Dear List,

Members of the O&P community will be interested to learn that when
financial and staff support permit the Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance
Fund, Inc. (OPAF) can administer special programs with community
partners. Such programs include follow-up Junior Sports Initiatives
(JSI), which, like the original JSI, help to introduce children to
sports, explain the importance of setting goals, and boost their
self-esteem.

On May 31, 2003, OPAF will cooperate with the Springfield Massachusett’s
Shriners Hospital to hold such a JSI. OPAF will be assisting chiefly by
connecting volunteers to the hospital and supplying lunch to all
participants.

The JSI will be hosted by three-time Paralympic Champions Todd
Schaffhauser, and Dennis Oehler.

Volunteers are needed to assist at the various activity stations, to
help participants in their performance of one particular sporting
activity. Former and current Paralympic athletes are encouraged to
participate. Volunteers are responsible for their own travel and
accommodation expenses.

If you or someone you know is interested in this opportunity, please
contact Tracey Kaizar at Shriners directly via [email protected]
for complete information.

Thanks for your assistance and your consideration of OPAF’s community
service in this way.

Joel Kempfer CP FAAOP
President, OPAF
