Re: just not a candidate for a Px

Levy, Charles

I must take exception to Joe’s post ” just not a candidate for a Px” where

he stated “I say the doctors are not the best at determining whether a

person can walk. They certainly have information to offer, and so do PTs.

But CPs know what it takes to walk on a prosthesis.”

While I agree that most CP’s know more about prosthetics and are more

invested in amputee outcomes than most physicians, such a generality as

above cannot stand. No one that I have met has devine foreknowledge of who

will be successful in a prosthesis. Nor does any single profession. It is

not helpful to classify all physicians (or all CP’s, or all PT’s). It

depends on the patient, the problem, the prosthesis, and the individual

practitoners. I have always tried to work with my fellow professionals to

provide best patient care. I believe we can learn form each other. I know

that I have profited greatly from being able to ask questions of

prosthetists. I am confident that the prosthetists that have shared clinic

with me have learned a thing or two from me over the years.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Levy, MD
