Partial finger for weight lifter

Ortopedia Correto – Jairo Blumenthal

Dear Colleagues from the OandP list:

I would like to have your opinion about a Patient that asked me to help

him.

He is a “weight lifter”, world champion in his category, lifting 250 kg.

But he has a partial amputation at the 4th finger at his medial

Interphalangeal and he just cannot lift more weight becouse it slips from

the grip of his amputated hand. When he wraps the hand to the “weight”, he

can lift 50 kilos more(300kg total

660lb), but this is forbiden by the

international rules of this sports, but this shows that giving him some

kind of “partial finger”that could support all this weight he could

increase his mark in about 20% more.

Does anybody have experience with this kind of problem?? How to attatch

such a partial finger to support all thia weight? All suggestions will be

welcome, and I will post the answers. Obs: The patient is ready to try

anything, anywhere, becouse he is a gold medal in paraolympics and wants to

become one at the regular games, solving this problem.

Thank you in advance!
