I’ve developed a technique for building a total contact AFO with a removable
inner boot. The boot is comprised of Aliplast, nylon stockinette, and a
molded foot orthosis. It greatly aids in post delivery modifications to the
orthosis and is reimbursable using the code for molded inner boot (in the
USA). After presenting this at two state meetings (Michigan and Washington)
I’ve been repeatedly asked for some sort of procedure guide. I’ve finally
completed one and offer it here to anyone who is interested. This is the
procedure we use in place of total contact casting for foot ulcers and for
acute Charcot feet.
