As we survey the O&P landscape, we face dramatic challenges and exciting opportunities. Our practices and practitioners face uncertainty in the wake of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) audits and the temporary suspension of Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearings. This also creates stress for O&P educational institutions that are seeking affiliations, internships, externships, and residencies that offer necessary introductory experiences and, eventually, employment for their program graduates. In this era of outcomes-based evaluations, the successful employment of their graduates is one of the benchmarks against which all O&P educational institutions are measured.
