Age biases in the workplace remain a pervasive issue that can impact the confidence, behavior, and sense of belonging among older employees. Roughly 99 percent from a recent survey believe there is at least some degree of ageism in the workplace.
Of those who responded to our question about the misconceptions that contribute to ageism, 42 percent said the belief is that older workers simply can’t adapt; 33 percent said the belief is that these workers are too stuck in their ways; 21 percent said it was stereotypes about older people, and 4 percent said it was something else, but didn’t tell us what it could be.
According to a new report from AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, nearly one in four American adults—about 65 million people—provide ongoing care to an elderly, chronically ill, and/or disabled person. It is no surprise that the demands of being a caregiver can take their toll without the right outlets and coping mechanisms.
We asked our followers their thoughts on what caregivers can do to ease some of burdens they face. Of those who responded, 46 percent said caregivers should make their own health their first priority; 31 percent said joining a support group helps; 15 percent said caregivers must know when to accept their limitations; and 8 percent said caregivers should consider an adult daycare/respite setting for their charges.
Since we are nearing the last days of summer, our latest poll focuses on summer heat! Our question: What’s the best way to keep your house cool? So far, and not surprising, air conditioners are getting the top vote. Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
