The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a final rule earlier this month that bans noncompete clauses nationwide. Such clauses are used in many industries, including the O&P profession. The FTC chairperson said, “The FTC’s final rule to ban noncompetes will ensure Americans have the freedom to pursue a new job, start a new business, or bring a new idea to market.” We asked our readers on LinkedIn what they thought of the ruling, which is facing some legal challenges. 83 percent said the noncompete clause was about time; 6 percent felt the clause should remain in effect, and 12 percent didn’t have an opinion either way. One follower commented on LinkedIn that the ruling “forces the O&P industry to stay competitive and get creative with clinical benefits package for both recruitment and retention of staff.”
On X formerly, known as Twitter, it was unanimous, the time for change has come.
May is Teacher Appreciation Month, good timing as they reach the end of the school year. Almost everyone can remember the impact that a caring teacher had or has in their lives. (That includes this writer. I received the book The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran from my eighth-grade teacher when I graduated from high school. It still has its prominent place on my bookshelf, and I still not only read the book from time to time, but the inscription she wrote in there as well. It meant a lot to me when she gave it to me all those years ago and over the years that have come and gone.)
We asked our readers what was the best way to celebrate teachers this month. Of those who responded on LinkedIn, 24 percent buy them a gift card; 24 percent donate toward classroom supplies; 24 percent said they advocate for teacher-related policies, and 29 percent said write thank-you notes.
On X it was split between donating classroom supplies and writing thank-you notes.
