DEI, which is designed to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people—including those with disabilities, has dominated the news in recent weeks. We asked our followers, what are some of the advantages to DEI in the workplace?
Of those who responded, 47 percent said DEI leads to more innovation in the workplace; 24 percent said it provided a sense of belonging; and 18 percent said it offered a company an eclectic pool of talent.
Twelve percent said something else, including one follower who reposted our poll with the comment, “I, for one, support the inclusion of ethnicities in the workplace.”
Another follower said, “It has been… ‘interesting’… to see the division in beliefs within O&P. In general, I’ve mostly seen positive views on DEI, but it’s true that I ended up removing some (not close) contacts recently due to some aggressively negative opinions floating to the surface in support of the DEI bans. For a field about providing wider accessibility in extremely diverse populations, there is still a surprising amount of people who have alarming opinions on the matter. It is good to see positive dialogue recently from some major names in the field in support of DEI programs.”
With perhaps some people still feeling the effects of springing forward on March 9, we asked our followers what they thought of Daylight Saving Time—good, bad, or indifferent. Forty-nine percent of those who responded said it should be permanent—stop changing the clocks twice a year, please and thank you! Twenty percent said it disrupts their sleep and other routines; 20 percent (like this writer) also said the time change doesn’t bother them, and 12 percent said they downright dread it.
For this week’s poll, we’re focusing on an article in our March issue that highlights the importance of the human resources department. Our question: Why is HR a necessary part of your O&P business? It’s up and in full swing. So far, our followers are saying a good HR department provides effective people management. Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
