A recent poll question highlighted September’s National Grandparents Month, a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. Of those who responded to our question. “What do you remember most about your grandparents?” 55 percent said their love and attention; 20 percent they remember all the good homemade meals; and 15 percent said their grandparents always made them feel welcomed. Unfortunately, 10 percent of those who took our poll said they never got the chance to know their grandparents.
On Twitter, half of those who took our poll said they their grandparent’s love and attention are what they remember most; 12.5 percent said they remember the delicious meals, 12.5 percent said their grandparents made them feel welcome, but 25 percent weren’t able to know their grandparents.
Last week, since we were at the beginning of a new month, we asked another timely question. October is derived from octo, Latin for eight, an indication of its position in the early Roman calendar. Now, though, October is known for great weather, pumpkin spice, and Halloween.
We asked, “What do you find most appealing about the tenth month of the year?” Fifty-seven percent said they love the weather; 20 percent said they love all the sports on television, including the baseball playoffs and football; 20 percent said they love Halloween and pumpkin patches; and three percent said it’s the best time of year for chilly-weather recipes.
Two-thirds of our Twitter respondents love the weather this time of year and the rest said it’s Halloween and pumpkin patches that makes October fun.
Since October is also Health Literacy Month, our latest question centers on the importance of understandable health information. Our question, “How would better health literacy help your O&P patients?” is up and in full swing. So far, our voters are saying that health literacy would help their patients better manage their chronic conditions. Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
