In the March issue of The O&P EDGE, an article highlighted the importance of human resources in the workplace—especially given the new laws now in place for 2025 about paid leave, discrimination protection, and workplace safety. We asked, Why is HR a necessary part of your O&P business? Of those who responded to our question, 85 percent said an HR department can provide effective people management; the other 15 percent said an HR department helps to ensure legal compliance. We included options for helping with strategic planning or to attract or retain top talent, but no one chose those.
Another poll also highlighted a March issue article that discussed new treatments for phantom limb pain (PLP). Our question: What does your clinic recommend for drug-free therapies to help patients relieve PLP? Of those who responded, 43 percent said the use of nerve stimulation; 43 percent also said the use of mirror box therapy was useful in treating PLP, and 14 percent said something else, but didn’t tell us. No one chose the acupuncture option.
Back to our question about their favorite text messaging phrase, 50 percent said LOL, and 42 percent said WTF. (Hope you’ve already looked that up. We’re a family publication.) Four percent said BTW and the other four percent chose the “something else, you tell us” option, and one follower did. He told us his favorite text abbreviation was JK (just kidding for those who had to look that one up, like this writer. This writer’s friends must not be kidders.)
Finally, last week’s question was about recognizing limb-loss awareness month, which started in April. We wanted to know what our followers were doing to honor and remember those with limb loss and limb difference. Of those who responded to our question, 64 percent said they were advocates, and 36 percent said they were planning on to wear orange on Wednesdays.
And finally, since tariffs are the talk of the town, that’s our question for this week: If tariffs are implemented in the United States, to what extent to you think they will affect O&P? It’s up and in full swing. So far, our followers are split between choosing “a great deal” and “somewhat.” Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
