Bex Yearworth, a trustee and prosthetic technician with Legs4Africa, is being recognized in an exhibition at the National Science Museum, London. The exhibition is dedicated to encouraging young people to consider careers in O&P.
Yearworth told BBC West that it was “a big responsibility and an honor” to be selected for the exhibition, which was “an amazing opportunity to inspire young people.”
Yearworth said she was one of only a few female technicians when she began her career in 2015.“There is a massive skills shortage in the industry, so to be able to shine the spotlight on prosthetics and break down some stereotypes that still exist I hope we will be able to encourage more young people to see it as a future career opportunity,” she said.
Tom Williams, CEO of Legs4Africa said that without the expertise of “Bex and the team, the charity would not have been able to make such a difference. It is great to see [Bex’s] work recognized. She is a real inspiration, and we are lucky to have her as part of our [specialist] team.”
