Sandy Trombetta used to bring disabled veterans of war
to the ski slopes one at a time in the 1980s. As a recreation therapist at the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center in western Colorado, Trombetta recognized the physical and mental benefits that skiing and other winter activities can provide.
