The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) announced that its 2025 Policy Forum will be conducted as a live virtual event this year on May 6-8 and May 12-15.
An education session will be held Tuesday, May 6, 1-5 pm ET. Subject matter experts will provide education and updates about the new government, policy initiatives, and AOPA’s virtual and in-person advocacy strategies, as well as collaborative efforts to support the advocacy activities of its sister organizations.
Congressional meetings will be conducted via Zoom on May 7-8 and May 12-15.
Several key factors influenced the decision to hold a virtual event, including:
- The impact of a new administration and Congressional leadership (including leadership changes in key committees).
- The timing of the introduction of the Medicare Orthotic and Prosthetic Patient-Centered Care Act.
- The ability to increase participation of O&P professionals, students, and patients in shaping the future of O&P policy, as a virtual format eliminates travel and cost barriers.
AOPA said it is not pivoting to a virtual Policy Forum indefinitely, and it will continue to facilitate strategic in-person meetings with key members of Congress throughout the year and may call on AOPA members from key states and districts to travel to Washington to participate in meetings.
