Cody McDonald, PhD, MPH, CPO, an assistant professor at the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, has been awarded a five-year K01 Training Grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for her research study, “Optimizing health outcomes by improving measurement of grief after amputation with a health equity approach.”
The goal of the research is to develop a patient-reported outcome measure using community-based participatory methods, modern instrument development techniques, and a health equity approach. The new measure will optimize outcomes and quality of life for individuals with amputation by equitably improving measurement and understanding of the emotional experience of major limb amputation. Over the course of the project, McDonald will be mentored by a team of senior researchers at the university.
McDonald presented her research at Hanger LIVE in January and received an award from the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists this month.
