WiDE, Riga, Latvia, has received a CE marking for software that allows users to customize prostheses and orthoses for 3D printing. CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). It allows WiDE to distribute its software in the European Economic Area (EEA), Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
WiDE 3D-printing software “wraps” a digital template of a prosthesis around a 3D scan of the patient’s residual limb, which permits further adjustments to the model, and prepares the file for printing, which bridges the gap between a lack of skills using 3D printers and the need for rapid modeling and customization of 3D-printed prosthetic devices.
