The Ottobock Michelangelo robotic prosthetic hand and the RSLSteeper bebionic3 myoelectric prosthetic hand received a “highly commended” British Healthcare Award in the Independent Living Design category. The awards were presented by the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) at a ceremony that was held December 6 in South Kensington, England. Award winners were recognized for “high-quality service and innovation” that allow people to live more independently.
In addition, Saeed Zahedi, technical director for Blatchford Clinical Services, Sheffield, England, received a lifetime service award for a career spent “at the forefront of technological advancements,” according to a BHTA press release. Zahedi was recognized for “developing a limb system to allow low-cost, modular limbs to be assembled and delivered simply and effectively to many thousands of amputees in conflict zones, supporting the provision of prosthetic limbs to Haiti following the earthquake, and developing the first microprocessor-controlled limb system….”
