The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) is conducting a survey of ABC-certified orthotic fitters to collect information to develop a new practice analysis of the discipline. The survey will be emailed to all ABC-certified orthotic fitters in late August.
Last published for orthotic fitters in 2011, ABC practice analyses are validation studies that focus on providing a contemporary description of the tasks and responsibilities of the O&P profession. ABC said the survey results will be used in the development of future valid and reliable exams; to determine current trends and directions in practice; to provide a framework for education and accreditation; and to convey to those outside the disciplines the scope of services provided by certified orthotic fitters.
ABC is encouraging all certified orthotic fitters to participate in the survey to ensure the quality of the certification exam and to make sure it fully assesses the domains, tasks, knowledge, and skills needed in the profession.
