The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) has established a minimum score to pass the therapeutic shoe fitter certification exam. The update was the result of a recent standard setting meeting of ABC certified therapeutic shoe fitters (CFts).
Earlier this year ABC’s pedorthic exam committee, which is responsible for oversight of the CFts certification exam, approved a new form of the CFts exam. It was constructed from existing exam questions and new questions created through an item writing campaign, which was also completed earlier this year. “These efforts from dedicated ABC volunteers allow us to build a relevant and contemporary therapeutic shoe fitter exam. A relevant and updated certification exam will ultimately protect those individuals with diabetes who need these important services,” Deborah Merritt Plescia, CPO, ABC president said.
The new CFts certification exam will be administered for the first time in February.
