The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) renamed the CAD/CAM Society to the Digital Innovation Society. The Academy said that the new name reflects the expanding landscape of digital technologies in O&P and aligns the society’s mission with the full breadth of today’s digital clinical workflows.
The society now encompasses a broader range of emerging technologies, including:
- 3D scanning and digital shape capture
- Digital design and simulation
- Automated fabrication workflows
- Data-driven decision-making and analytics
- Artificial intelligence–supported clinical tools
- Innovations that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes
“Digital tools are transforming our profession—not only how we design and fabricate devices, but how we evaluate outcomes, collaborate across teams, and ultimately enhance the patient experience,” said Joe Fairley, CP, chair. “Renaming our society to the Digital Innovation Society reflects both where we are and where we’re headed. I’m excited to help create a space where O&P professionals can learn from one another, explore emerging technologies, and advance digital excellence together.”
