The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) launched a scientific society for Academy members interested in pediatric O&P care. David Patterson, CO/L, will serve as the inaugural chair.
“The launch of the Pediatric Scientific Society reflects the Academy’s continued commitment to supporting specialized areas of practice and creating opportunities for members to connect around shared clinical interests,” said Gerald Stark, PhD, MSEM, CPO, LPO, FAAOP(D), Academy president.
Its mission is to “advance clinical care for infants, children, and adolescents with orthotic and prosthetic needs by investigating, educating, and cultivating best practices through research, publications, and educational events. The society fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate safe, effective, and patient-centered outcomes for pediatric patients and their families,” according to the Academy.
“Pediatric care requires not only clinical expertise, but also collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes throughout a child’s life,” said Patterson. “This society will provide a dedicated space for professionals who are passionate about pediatric care to learn from one another, share best practices, and help shape the future of pediatric orthotic and prosthetic care.”
