In its latest final coding cycle determinations, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) included a new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II code for myoelectric pattern recognition, also known as intent decoding, upper-limb prosthetic devices.
The new code is L-6700 (Upper extremity addition, external powered feature, myoelectronic control module, additional emg inputs, pattern-recognition decoding intent movement). Payment will be made on a purchase basis; the average 2025 purchase fee schedule amount is $28,931.56. The effective date of the code is April 1.
Coapt led a consortium, along with Ottobock and Infinite Biomedical Technologies, to submit an application to CMS for the new HCPCS code.
