To reduce provider and supplier burden, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) created documents to streamline regulatory requirements and help simplify payment requirements for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) suppliers.
The Master List of DMEPOS Items Potentially Subject to Conditions of Payment serves as a library of fee-for-service DMEPOS codes that were flagged as potential vulnerabilities based on the criteria outlined in CMS-1713-F. CMS recently added 20 items to the Master List.
CMS-1713-F describes the DMEPOS fee schedule amounts, the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program (CBP) amendments, standard elements for a DMEPOS order, and the Master List of DMEPOS items potentially subject to a face-to-face encounter, and the requirements for a Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD) and/or prior authorization.
As of October 28, the Master List will include 550 items, but providers and suppliers don’t need to take action unless an item also appears on one or both lists for prior authorization and face-to-face encounters and WOPDs. CMS also created a side-by-side crosswalk document of the lists for comparison.
Following CMS’s addition of 8 items, as of October 28, the required prior authorization list will include 82 items, and the required face-to-face encounter and WOPD list will include 105 items following the addition of 22 items.
