The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its Fast Facts resource document for 2022-2025, which has added summary information about durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) providers. Fast Facts includes data about total program enrollment, utilization, expenditures, and total number of Medicare providers.
For calendar year 2023, 73,279 DMEPOS providers and 2,583 individual certified prosthetist/orthotists were “utilized by original Medicare beneficiaries for all Part B non-institutional DMEPOS services. Providers may be counted in more than one specialty classification but are reported as a single provider in the ‘Total DMEPOS Providers’ count,” the report said.
The counts come from Medicare fee-for-service Part B claims data, available from the CMS Chronic Conditions Data Warehouse, a database with all Medicare enrollment and claims data.
