College Park Industries,Warren, Michigan, won a Red Dot Award for the design of its Espire Elbow Pro prosthetic elbow. College Park collaborated with Altair Engineering and DornerWorks to win the design competition.
“This Red Dot award validates and celebrates our design efforts,” said Aaron Taszreak, College Park’s engineering manager. “One of the biggest challenges we faced as engineers was developing a product that fit the needs of such a diverse user group. We overcame this through a common anatomical housing that accepts various components to meet patient needs. To further build upon this model, the Espire Elbow was designed to be compatible with the widest range of inputs, terminal devices, and future innovations in haptic feedback and pattern recognition.”
Designers and companies from 60 countries entered more than 6,500 products in the competition. The jurors test all of the entries to assess the aesthetic quality, the materials selected, the level of craftsmanship, the surface structure, ergonomics, and functionality.
