A financial settlement was reached this month in a 2023 intellectual property lawsuit filed by Cranial Technologies against Ottobock and Active Life. The suit alleged that Ottobock’s MyCRO Band and iFab system infringed Cranial Technologies’ patents for cranial remodeling devices.
The lawsuit also asserted that Ottobock sold the infringing products to Active Life, which joined Ottobock Patient Care in 2021. Active Life ceased patient care in 2024.
To settle the suit, Ottobock paid Cranial Technologies a confidential settlement fee, removed MyCRO from its US portfolio, and agreed not to produce these types of cranial orthotic devices in the United States, including 3D-printed cranial orthoses.
Cranial Technologies said its calculation of the settlement fee was based on the number of helmets sold since inception.
