A recent poll conducted by The O&P EDGE addressed an age-old problem in O&P: phantom limb pain. We asked our followers why it is seemingly so hard to treat. Another poll asked about AOPA’s National Assembly, which was held in Las Vegas earlier this month, and what attendees enjoyed most about it. Think it was the boxed lunches served on Thursday and Friday? Read on to find out. READ MORE
In the September issue of The O&P EDGE, an article highlights phantom limb pain, a genuine neurological condition that can often be more disabling than the limb loss itself. While it can affect most people with amputations, phantom limb pain remains one of the most undertreated conditions in rehabilitation. Of those who responded to our question about why is it so difficult to manage, 70 percent said the lack of universal guidelines was the problem, 20 percent said it was the mixed origins, and 10 percent said the brain reorganization made it challenging to treat.
With another AOPA National Assembly wrapped up and in the bag, we wanted to know what our followers enjoyed most about the conference. 62 percent said they enjoyed networking with friends and colleagues, 23 percent said they enjoyed the exhibit hall and educational sessions (which included timely sessions about artificial intelligence and the impact of weight loss drugs on O&P care), and 15 percent said they enjoyed the Vegas nightlife. The boxed lunches served on Thursday and Friday? No one responded, so apparently no one enjoyed those!
This week we’re asking our followers to tell us what they think about GLP-1 weight loss drugs. Our question: What’s been one of the biggest care challenges with rapid weight loss medications at your clinic? So far, our followers are saying loose sockets are the biggest challenge. Tell us what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
