A key element for success in any business is to maintain efficiency while delivering high-quality service or products. And for O&P practices, the ability to operate efficiently is impacted significantly by the process of device fabrication—enter 3D printing and decisions about in-house or outsourcing fabrication. In this issue, we interviewed a variety of technicians, clinicians, and practice owners about how they approach producing the prostheses and orthoses critical to patient care.
In terms of whether a practice uses in-house fabrication or outsources to a central fab facility, there is no universal right decision. In “Finding Your Fabrication Match: In-house, Central Fabrication, or Both,” we explore how practices found the processes that allow their businesses (and patients) to thrive, whether it’s outsourcing all devices to allow clinicians to focus on solely on patient care, keeping everything in-house to ensure control over fabrication materials and methods, or a mix of both.
