The O&P profession is at the beginning of a transitional phase, one that aims to set a higher standard for clinicians in regard to the education and clinical training they receive, as well as in their patient management skills. This shift in educational standards should, in theory, lead to better trained orthotists and prosthetists who have a deeper understanding of the medical and biomechanical aspect of the disease/ condition being examined than the practitioners before them and allow for continued improvement of patient outcomes.
