Most of Taavy Miller’s patients who use a lower-limb prosthesis have experienced a fall at least once, often early in their rehabilitation or while still in the hospital.
She recalls one of her patients who was doing well during his recovery and rehabilitation. After being cleared for a prosthesis from his physician, he fell while getting out of bed a few days later, and the skin on his residual limb tore open.
