Harold H. Sears, PhD, is retiring as president of Motion Control, Salt Lake City, effective July 1. He will continue working with the company part-time in a new role as president emeritus. Motion Control is a division of Fillauer Companies, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
During Sears’ 35 years of innovation and leadership, Motion Control has developed myoelectric upper-limb prosthetic technology, including commercializing one of the first myoelectric elbows, the Utah Arm, as well as the first water-resistant electric terminal device, the ETD. Throughout his career, Sears has shared his knowledge and passion for teaching, and his care for people with limb loss by traveling internationally to provide myoelectric, upper-limb clinical education to prosthetists, therapists, physicians, and their patients.
Concurrently, Arthur (Art) Dyck, EET, Motion Control’s current vice president of operations, will become the new president. Dyck began his career at Motion Control in 1988; he holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Alberta Institute of Technology, Canada.
“Firstly, I want to thank Harold for his dedication to the prosthetic profession and Fillauer. I am appreciative that Harold will remain in a part-time position with us through the transition in leadership to continue his great work with our company,” said Michael Fillauer, CEO of Fillauer Companies. “With this change, I am pleased that Art will be leading the future Motion Control. He has been with the company for the past 29 years, understands the business, and is well-suited to take the reins at Motion Control.”
